Feeling grateful for what we have in life has been one of the major subjects in the positive psychology studies. It does change lives. But the most important detail of this story is not only feeling gratitude but expressing it.

Gratitude is a positive emotion that helps us increase our happiness levels, enjoy life better and empower our well-being. It strengthens relationships, increases optimism and cultivates kindness and compassion in the world.

However, many people tell me how difficult it is sometimes to think of ways to express how grateful they are to people they love and appreciate. Gratitude though is much more than saying Thank you. You can do so much more than that.

So, here you can find some ideas to start changing your life by using Gratitude!

  1. Tell them how thankful you are for them. Make them feel unique.

  2. Call them and say how happy and grateful you are for all they have done to you and for what they are.

  3. Write a Thank You note or letter and give it or send it to them.

  4. Text them when they least expect it. Say something wonderful.

  5. Invite them to your place or take them out for a meal. Pick their favourite place.

  6. Do something for them without asking, like cleaning the house or do the weekly shopping.

  7. Give them a compliment. Who doesn’t like one?

  8. Collect memories, create a photo collage and frame it. Give it to them as a gift.

  9. Listen to them when they have something to tell you. Show them love and understanding.

  10. Give them a hug. It doesn’t have to be a special day for it.

  11. Cook a nice meal. Arrange the table nicely and create a beautiful day. Note: Don’t cheat and buy the food from outside! Use your artistic talent.

  12. Watch a movie together. Pick a funny one and laugh together. It enhances positive emotions!

  15. Spend time with the people you love and appreciate. It gives extra value to your feelings of thankfulness and it strengthens your relationships.

  17. Give them a gift. Choose something they really like or something unusual. You can choose from cinema tickets to something they can wear or a trip.

  18. Always be there for them. Relationships are the most precious gift we have.
